Net voor ons vertrek naar Nieuw Zeeland arriveert de eerste inzending voor het project, verstuurd door een anoniem persoon. En wat voor één! Het lang verloren gewaande scheermes van Abel Tasman!
The razor appears to be sent from Australia… Het scheermes blijkt te zijn verzonden vanuit Australie…
Remarkable detail: the knife is wrapped in paper from Dutch liquor-store chain ‘Gall & Gall Opmerkelijk detail: het mes is verpakt in papier van de Nederlandse drankenwinkelketen ‘Gall & Gall’.
On the box is carved the year ‘1642’… In het doosje is het jaartal ‘1642’ gekrast…
And on the handle ‘1633 42’ + the number 5 + the name ‘ABEL’… En op het heft ‘1633 42’ + het getal 5 + de naam ‘ABEL’…
And as the ultimate proof: a very ancient piece of paper with the signature of Abel Tasman himself! En als ultiem bewijs: een overduidelijk oud papiertje met de handtekening van Abel Tasman zelf!
