On the 22th of November 2011 we visited the National Archives in The Hague. We were allowed to have an extensive look at the original journal of Abel Tasman from 1642-1643, with drawings by Isaac Gilsemans. Op 22 november bezochten wij het Nationaal Archief in Den Haag en kregen uitgebreid inzage in het originele journaal van Abel Tasman uit 1642-1643, met de tekeningen van Isaac Gilsemans.

The drawing is very detailed and the colours are still very bright. De tekening is erg gedetailleerd en de kleuren zijn nog steeds erg helder.

It’s quite sensational to see the journal in real life. Het is indrukwekkend om het journaal in het echt te zien.

Abel Tasman’s route at the westcoast of New Zealand. He did not (want to?) find the passage through Cook Strait). De route van Tasman rond de westkust van Nieuw Zeeland . Waarbij hij de doorgang door Cook Strait niet vond (of wilde vinden?).
